Fall Fashion – The Bomber Jacket

The Bomber JacketMove over cardigans, this Fall’s favorite light weight outer wear piece is the Bomber Jacket! Who would have thought that this Military inspired jacket would look so awesome in more than the standard Army Green?! The Fashion industry has put their own spin on this classic favorite by replicating it in bold colors, florals, sporty stripes, and even some fun prints for the guys too.
Below we’ve paired up some of our favorite designs to show you that there is indeed a Bomber Jacket for everyone!
Here is a more classic look in Army Green . It’s still stylish and edgy, and looks great with a simple black V neck tee and Army green skinny jeans. The black ankle booties and camo printed clutch top it off with a touch of sophistication.
Classic Bomber
Next we have what we’ve dubbed as the “Artsy” because these kinds of printed Bomber Jackets
can get really fun and, well, artsy! There’s some wild prints out there from florals to printed text.
We love this floral embroidered baby blue Bomber paired with a silver metallic pleated skirt and
silver beret’. You can’t get much more “artsy” than that!
Artsy Bomber
This sporty take on the Bomber reminds us of a letterman’s jacket, but it’s much more comfy and cute. Pair it
up with some heels to make it look more dressy!
Sporty Bomber
You can find Bomber Jackets in almost any color right now! This soft pink number paired with a black
and white a line skirt is super cute! Keep it fun and youthful by accessorizing it with a pair of Chucks!
The Solid Bomber
And yes! Bombers are huge in the Men’s Fall fashion scene too! Check out all these super fun
options for the Boys! Definitely a style for every personality!

So whatever your fashion preference, there’s sure to be a Bomber Jacket for YOU!

Fall Florals

Hello everyone! I hope your first month back to school is going beautifully and stylishly! I’m noticing the days are getting shorter, the mornings are cooler, and there’s that faint familiar feeling of Fall in the air. I don’t know about you, but Fall is my fave! The colors, the smells, the weather, the food, and of coarse, the fashion!

One Fall 2016 Fashion trend we will see a lot of this season are floral prints. Yep, they’re no longer just for spring! Fall florals are all the rage, and I personally love them! Today I’ll show you a few of my favorite ways to wear them this year!

Fall Florals

First we have this super cute high neck blouse with a ruffled edge. It’s a bit of a boho feel, and it pairs perfectly with these distressed jeans and ankle booties. Find a matching straight brim hat, and a few fun accessories like this perfect Fall inspired necklace, and you’ll have an adorable look to welcome the Fall season!

Fall Florals 2

Next we have this floral button down blouse that we’ve paired with a black A-line skirt. This look goes great with above the knee socks and a pair of simple but cute oxfords. Bolero choker necklaces are trending right now, and this would be a good outfit to wear one with.

Fall Florals 4

For our final look today we have this lovely red tie-neck blouse. This blouse style is just the right look to pair with another trending fashion item this Fall, Flared Jeans! To complete this 70’s inspired look, we’ve paired it up with some fabulous Mary Jane platforms, a cute faux leather saddle bag purse, a big wool floppy hat, and some large gold hoop earrings. Super cute huh!?

Fall Florals 3

You really can’t go wrong with floral prints this Fall, as long as you find prints in Fall inspired colors like Burnt Orange, Rust, Mustard, Navy, Black, Grey, and Neutrals. But don’t be afraid to pair them up with other trending items too! Have fun with it! Thanks so much for stopping by to read today’s post, and be sure to check in daily both here, and on Instagram @mdernteen for your daily dose of Fashion advice and inspiration!ROLS_WhiteWM

Modern Teen Style | Blue Pear Photo

Today’s featured session comes to you from Christina of Blue Pear Photo

I love the cool urban vibe of this session.  Excellent job Christina!

Here is what Christina had to say about the session…

Megan, Class of 2018 – The shoot took place in and around West Chester, PA, which is part of the Philadelphia metro area. Outfits were created for Megan from a combination of my Style Closet and her favorite pieces from her wardrobe, which gave the styling session a feeling of adventure and discovery, as we tried this and that to create the perfect looks, and collaborated with my hair and makeup artist for the finishing touches. I mean, who doesn’t love to play dress up!? I pre-scouted and selected each of the locations for their industrial, urban and worn feeling. I had a few concepts in mind for each place, which Megan interpreted more beautifully than I could have imagined. All in all, we were downright giddy by the end of the day with hugs and high-fives all around!

The gear used…

This session was photographed using a Canon Mark II and Canon Mark III. I primarily used the Sigma 70-200mm 2.8, and then the Tamron 45mm 1.8.

This session was inspired by…

I loved the idea of juxtaposing the downtown scenes and industrial architecture with glam touches from big hair, sequins, patent heels and ruffles. And of course, by the end, we just had to do a faux-hawk updo, which was especially fierce with Megan’s fearless model-stare.

Modern Teen Style | Expressions By Erica

Today’s featured session is from Erica Oakley of Expressions By Erica

I love the whole enchanted feel of this session!  Way to think outside the box Erica!

Here is what Erica had to say about the session…

This sessions was one that I have been dreaming of for months. It was a styled “woodland fairy” creative shoot that took place literally on the edge of a cotton field. Thanks to my event designer, we were able to achieve almost an Amazon look right at home.

ExpressionsbyErica1

The gear used…

I used my Canon 5D and 85mm 1.2. I used my reflector to diffuse some harsh light at times, because we were shooting in not so idea lighting conditions. Luckily, that sunlight left some pretty background color in the images.

ExpressionsbyErica2

This session was inspired by…

I was inspired by some recent movies with colorful scenes in enchanted-looking forests. I could just image a session inspired by woodland fairies and sprites. I wanted something fun, nature-filled, and unique. That combined with some cool hair and makeup, made for the coolest session!

Hair and Makeup…

My go-to hair and makeup is Suzanne Holt.

Fashion Flashback! Ankle Zip Jeans

Hello everyone! We’re  back with this month’s “Fashion Flashback”! Whether you love or hate them, some trends seem to make it back into the fashion world. Today’s feature is ankle zip jeans. These babies were popular in the late 80’s and early 90’s, when the tight taper jeans were all the rage. The tighter the taper, the better, and this trend had fashionistas tugging and pulling to get them on and off their ankles! (Yes, they were that tight!) So someone came up with the brilliant idea of putting in a zipper to maintain the tight taper, but make them much easier to wear. The zipper became a fun look in it’s own right, and though we don’t wear the taper quite as tight in this season’s take on this classic, the look is still a total steal from that past fashion era.

Ankle Zip Jeans

We feel these ankle zip jeans are really made to pair with fun shoe styles. Great shoes will draw attention to the zipped ankle detail. Below, we’ve put together some shoe samples that look great with this fun renewed jean style. Think Oxfords with short ankle socks, vans with no socks, a great pair of pumps, or some adorable ankle booties. Leaving a space between the shoe and the hemline will help to keep the attention drawn to the ankle zips, and we think it looks pretty chic and stylish too! As for tops, just wear them like you would regular skinny jeans, and keep your awesome shoes in mind while picking the color and style of your top.

Ankle zip jeans 2

Want to REALLY flashback? Try a pair in one of these vibrant, crazy colors that are straight out of the 80’s. Perfect for an 80’s inspired photoshoot, but perhaps not too practical for everyday wear!

So what do you think? Do you love them or hate them? We like the denim versions paired with the oxfords and ankle boots a lot, and glamming them up with heels for a photoshoot would be awesome! Summer to Fall Wardrobe Transitioning

So today, August is officially half over. I don’t know about you, but man, the summer didn’t last long enough! It’s already time to start gearing up for the new school year! Before you know it, the weather will start getting cooler, and we’ll be diving into winter wardrobe all over again. I personally LOVE winter clothing, and I can’t wait to see what the Fall/Winter 2016 Fashion trends are going to be. (Be sure to be checking back here each week as we start to introduce them to you!)

For now, as you clean out your summer closets in preparation for new school clothes (the BEST part of a new school year right?!) I want to show you how you can extend your summer wardrobe for a little longer, and make it work for you this Fall season.

I’ve taken some favorite summer outfits and reworked them to work for the changing season. First I have a cute little sundress. I’ve changed out the sandals and straw sunhat, for knee high suede boots and matching hat. The transition from Summer to Fall can also include a change in make up tones. I’ve changed out the light pinky natural tones, for a nice fall palette.

Summer to Fall - Sundresses

For my second look we have black shorts, a favorite Summer wardrobe staple, and a cute crop top. I’ve layered over it with a long kimono, and added tights underneath the shorts. Since we can’t see it much under the kimono, I’ve swapped out the bracelet for a cute wrap choker. I also traded the floppy sun- hat for a fedora, and changed the wedge sandals to suede booties.

Summer to Fall - Black Shorts

Next I chose Palazzo Pants. These are so cute and comfy, and the best lightweight pants for Summer. They look stylish and perfect paired with a cute tank top and sandals. They also look super cute with a dress jacket, which is why they transition well into the Fall wardrobe. Swap out the sandals for some cute bootie style heels to go with the jacket, and wear small earrings and layered necklaces instead of a bracelet and dangle earrings. Also, changing the tones of your nail polish is a great way to welcome fall. Grey nail polish is supposed to be hot this year!

Summer to Fall - Palazzo Pants

I had to include the shift dress since it’s been trending for a while. Although my favorite way to wear the shift dress is by itself with a fun hat, it still looks pretty great layered with a cute, long cardigan. Also, trade out those gladiators for some stylish oxfords with knee high socks. Knee highs are totally in this season (see this post from co-blogger Sarah Elle)!

Summer to Fall - Shift Dress

For my last outfit, I had to choose the most popular go-to summer item- Denim Shorts. Get some Fall wardrobe use out of those bad boys and take advantage of that knee high sock trend! You can also layer tights and knee high socks for added warmth if you like. This edgy outfit can certainly handle it. Throw a flannel over your graphic tee and swap a slouch beanie for the headband to complete this cute fall look.

Summer to Fall - Denim shorts

I hope this helps you get a little more from your Summer wardrobe as you ease into Fall. In the upcoming weeks, we’ll be covering the hottest Fall 2016 trends, so be sure to check back frequently for tips for your back to school shopping list! And don’t forget to check everyday on Instagram @mdernteen for daily style inspirations!

Knee High Fall | Eye on Fashion | Modern Teen Style

Last year’s big accessory for fall was the boot cuff. And this year?
We’re bringing back the knee high sock!
knee high

Don’t get me wrong, I love a cute lace boot cuff but a classic knee high sock just doesn’t go out of style! You can wear it with ankle boots, knee high boots, shorts, skirts, dresses – it is such a versatile accessory! PLUS, unlike the boot cuff you don’t have to worry about it falling out of place or worse- falling out of your boot!
knee high3

Knee high socks used to be strictly associated with private school uniforms; but thanks to “Clueless” in the 90s (if you don’t know this movie look it up immediately!) they have become a fashion statement all of their own! You will see them with combat boots, stilettos, jean shorts, pleated skirts, sweater dresses – you name it! The possibilities of how you wear your knee highs is almost endless!
knee high2

And, an added bonus to rocking the knee high trend? Mom and dad will LOVE that your legs are covered – and trust me, come those crisp Fall afternoons, you will be happy you have them, too! Think of your knee high’s as the Fall version of your Spring leggings – they go with pretty much everything!

So, what do you think? Are you going to be a trend setter and say “bye bye” to your boot cuffs and “hello” knee highs?

Eye on Fashion | Olympic Style

The 2016 Summer Games open this Friday and Rio and the whole world will be watching! So why not show your support for Team USA by donning some Olympic inspired duds. I particularly love the sweatshirt with the hearts as the Olympic rings and the pants with the stars. Subtle, yet the message comes across.

Say it loud, say it proud. U-S-A!!!
