Playful Pineapple

Ok, so anyone else out there love the funky playfulness of fruit prints? Ever since Dolce & Gabbana came out with their banana leaf/Pineapple collection, it seems we’re seeing more and more fun fruit patterns in our summer fashion trends. We think they’re crazy cute and wanted to share with you some items we are inspired by, and some ways to wear Pineapple prints!

Here’s part of the awesome Dolce & Gabbana collection that helped to jazz up the inspiration for Pineapple print trends!

Dolce & Gabbana Inspired

Super fun huh? We think they look super cute in summer styles like this adorable romper! Add a rattan pineapple printed tote, some cute punchy yellow heeled sandals, and some super fun accessories, and we think you’ll have a fabulous outfit fit for a summer photo session, or wearing out!

Playful Pineapple

We also love this awesome fringed pineapple printed crop top! Paired with some black shorts and wide brimmed hat, takes it up to a sophisticated look. And if you’re feeling particularly funky, check out those crazy pineapple inspired wedges from Kate Spade, FUN!

Sleek Pineapple

For our casual pick, we found this cute pineapple printed tank top that we paired with everyday jean shorts. Another fabulous Kate Spade find are the pineapple inspired flip flops, again, if you’re feeling in a fun, funky mood!

Summer Crops

It’s mid July and it’s HOT! And so are these summer ensembles featuring crop tops! Crops are a go-to summer top when it’s blistering hot out, and everyone is wanting to look cute while beating the heat. So today we’ve put together four of our favorite ways to wear them this summer. From casual to chic, crops are fun and fashionable in many styles.

Crops with Printed Chiffon Shorts – These super comfy and cute printed shorts are just dressy enough for a summer lunch date, but are comfy enough to wear around the house. They look fantastic and dressy with a cute ruffled or off the shoulder crop.

Crops with printed chiffon shorts

Crops with Pencil Skirts – Long pencil skirts are sleek and with the right crop top, can look ultra modern and sophisticated. We love the matching yellow set for a classy, minimalist look, and the striped skirt with Adidas for a fun, funky take on this look.

Crops with Pencil Skirts

Crops with High Waisted Denim – Cute and casual, and a little bit edgy, these looks are perfect for the skate park, hanging out, or shopping with the girls. There’s nothing that goes with high waisted denim better than a crop. (Except maybe a onesie, but that’s for another post!)

Crops with high waisted denim

Crops with A-Line Skirts – This look is cute enough for any daytime activity, but dressy enough for an evening out too! How cute is that Dolce’ and Gabbana leaf print set?! LOVE!

Crops with A Line Skirts

What’s your favorite way to wear crop tops? Are you casual and funky with high waisted denim, or sleek and sophisticated like the pencil skirts? We hope whatever your style is, that you find some new inspiration here at Modern Teen Style, and that it gives you that nudge to try something new and fun with your personal fashion style. Eye on Fashion | Beach Cover-Ups

I can’t believe it’s already July 6! Where is the summer going??? So I am playing off of Rey’s awesome post yesterday about swim suit trends and focusing on what we wear OVER our fabulous bathing suits!! Ditch the shorts and tank tops and opt instead for a fashionable and stylish cover-up that you would confidently wear to pop into a shop or get a bite to eat.

Your traditional cover-ups almost look like dresses! In fact, you probably have a dress in your closet that would make the perfect cover-up. These are my faves! Choose a bold pattern or a bright solid. Or basic black is always a stylish option. Buy yours here.

Looking for something a little for “airy?” Opt for something that is crocheted! I love the texture and softness of these textured options including dresses, pants and skirts. But your favorite here.

And finally who doesn’t love a sarong? They’re versatile and fun. Wear traditionally as a skirt tied around your waist or bring it around your neck for more coverage. The prints are always bright and bold and would be the perfect complement to a solid swim suit. Wrap yours around you today! Buying information here.

Summer 2016 Swim Suit Trends

It’s officially July and summer is in full swing! Many of you are heading off on vacations, or trying to get away to somewhere near water, which means, bathing suit shopping! This summer we’ve noticed that one of the biggest trends in swimwear is high neck fashions. Both one piece and two piece bathing suits are sporting this fun, modern style. It’s a great look for all body shapes, especially in the chest area. They draw the eye up and make the next look longer. Many of them are great modest looks without coming across as frumpy or boring, but quite the opposite, and rather sleek and chic.

There’s practically a high neck design for all fashion categories, so there’s a style for everyone! Check out our favorites below.

Bathing Suits 2016
Swim Suits for 2016

Fun & Funky- Bright, bold, fun prints that are  youthful and funky for the fun, free spirited girl.

Sporty – An easy to move around in bathing suit that is simple, yet stylish. You can work out in style!

Country Chic – These high neck fashions would look adorable paired with a straw hat, or even cut off jean shorts.

Modern & Classy- This crisp, clean white suit with sheer geometric cut outs is perfectly modern, and classy enough for the most posh resort vacation.

Twist on Traditional- These suits are “traditional” in the sense that they never really go out of fashion. Just a little twist of something new added like the mesh neckline, or little cut out keeps them fresh and fun.

Wild Child- The perfect look for the girl who likes to wear her dark lipstick and smokey eye to the pool.

Simple Yet Sleek- Exactly how it sounds, this simple suit has no frills, and is straight to point. Yet it’s sleek enough to wear at the beach, or to the spa.

Boho – Boho at this point in fashion is still really popular, and these looks are perfect for this favorite fashion genre. The crochet top is an attention grabber, and one of our personal faves.

Super fun huh!? You should totally consider one of these high neck looks this summer for your vacations AND  your summer portrait sessions. Red, White, and BEAUTIFUL! | Eye on Fashion | Modern Teen Style

“Independence Day!”
“4th of July!”
“Red, white, and BOOM!”

Whatever you call it, the holiday is right around the corner and here at Modern Teen Style we KNOW you’ve been planning your outfit for days now! Are you going simple and casual with jean shorts and a red and white tank? Or more dressy with your cutest red sun dress and blue and white accessories? How about some NEW red, white, and blue inspiration to ensure you are red, white, and BEAUTIFUL come the 4th of July holiday party circuit!

Jeans are an obvious choice for any 4th of July party since their navy color is an easy nod to the red, white, and blue, theme! But this year, consider dressing up your jeans with a bright red blazer and some cute, casual sandals and take your regular bbq look to the next level! With the right pair of shoes and a change of accessories, you could make this look as fancy as you want (think stilettos or platform sandals and some gold bangles for a fancier twist on this style!).

rwb2

How cute is this overall look? It’s the ultimate in casual Summer wear and screams “Independence!!” don’t you think? What better way to show off your down home Americana style than with jean short overalls, an American flag crop top, aviators, and red and blue accented Converse sneakers?! Bring along your comfiest (and cutest) red, white or blue open front cardigan and you’ll be all set to go from bbq to bonfire!

rwb3

Does your 4th of July party invitation say “invite only” with a “no flip flops” kind of a dress code? This high waist, wide leg pant option is the PERFECT choice for those who need to be Country Club ready but are not feeling the Summer sundress look this year. Again, if you bring along your favorite blue cardigan you’ll be ready for any drop in the night’s temperature!

rwb4

And finally, my FAVORITE alternative red, white, and blue themed style. The high waist skirt is gorgeous, but when you pair it with a ruffled bright blue crop top it is a fantastic way to avoid the usual “jean shorts and tank” look you fall back on every year. This look is sure to win you any “best dressed” prizes at all of the 4th of July parties on your schedule!

rwb5

Whichever look you go with, have FUN this holiday season! Dress up, dress down, go full on American flag style on it! No matter your look, as long as you aim for the theme and give it a go, you are sure to be red, white, and BEAUTIFUL!
And please remember, regardless of what you wear, be safe this holiday season.

Tropical Prints

There’s only one time a year you can really get away with wearing Tropical Prints and that’s summer time! Tropical prints aren’t just meant for tropical islands or the beach, they look great in a variety of clothing styles including casual wear, and evening wear. Today we’ll show you some different ways to bring tropical prints into your summer wardrobe with some cute outfits we’ve put together for you.

First we have this more posh and a fun take on sleek meets whimsical. Can’t you see Barbie wearing this?! The long, tropical print pencil skirt paired with this simple strappy black crop top is both sleek and playful. The platform heels and detailed sun hat add sophistication to the look, while the pop of pink in the hand bag, earrings, lipstick, and nail polish, keep the look fresh and young.

Tropical Beach Wear 2

For our second look we found these adorable tropical print fringed shorts. We love the way they look with a cute ruffled, peasant-style crop top. Billabong sandals, a great floppy hat, and an adorable Kate Spade tropical print phone case, make this look fun for hanging out at the beach, or a day with friends.

Tropical Beach Wear

For our third look we have this super cute cami slip dress with a color block tropical leaf print. We’ve paired it with some Billabong crossover sandals and a stylish Janessa Leone white fedora hat. The fringed shoulder bag from H&M and the tropical print phone case complete a look that is great for a casual day out, or even a relaxed summer night out.

Tropical Beach Wear 4

This fourth look we’ve put together is gorgeous for a summer event or nice evening out. The tropical print silk dress by Isolda Carolina is the right amount of elegance with it’s long, flowy skirt, and off the shoulder neckline. The Kate Spade canvas woven platform heels are the perfect match, along with the straw tote and Saint Laurent sunglasses. Add a straw sunhat to dress it down for a daytime look, or a flower in your hair for the evening out.

Tropcial Beach Wear 3

For our fifth and final look we put together something a little more edgy for you. We found these cute and comfy tropical print jogger style pants and paired it with a simple black tank style crop top. The Rag and Bone black fedora and round frame sunglasses instantly give this outfit an element of funk, while the strappy platform wedge sandals keep the look stylish and fresh. The addition of the black cord bracelets, and graphic printed beach tote, completes this fun hipster look.

Tropical Beach Wear 5

See! Tropical prints can be stylish and fun for pretty much any summertime occasion! Thanks for stopping by today for your daily dose of style education. Be sure to check us out on Facebook and Instagram @mdernteen for more tips on style and fashion for photo shoots and everyday wear!

Eye on Fashion | Summer Nails

School’s out (or almost out in my case) and summer is in full swing. But before you throw on those flip flops, you need to make sure your toes are summer ready! Luckily I’ve got the three hottest summer nail trends right here so pick your shade and paint those piggies!

Nude nails aren’t just for weddings. This understated look is classic and clean and there’s a shade to match every skin tone.  Plus you know it will go with everything! Get your nude shade here.

If you’re looking for color but want it to be understated, try a pastel shade of your favorite color. It’s the perfect way to try out a color you might not normally wear without committing to an overly bright shade. Pastels can be found here.

If you’re ready to just let your style show and scream to the world about how excited you are for summer, then you’ll definitely want to go neon! Match your nail color to your favorite bikini and you’re ready to go! Neon buying info here.

Fashion Flash Back – Accessories of the 90’s

Hello everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve done a “Fashion Flashback” feature! I recently had my 20th class reunion (yah, just wait, it will go fast for you too!) and while looking through old photos and reminiscing with everyone,  I couldn’t help but notice a few accessories that were super popular in the 90’s that are currently re-trending today. It’s so crazy how fashion recycles through the years! Some things we are happy to welcome back into our closets and other things, well, we might wish they would have died with the era! Let’s see what you think of these four accessories that are making their way back into this summer’s fashion scene.

90's Flash Back

#1 Tattoo chokers- The “edgy” kids wore these in the 90’s. These cheap stretch-plastic chokers were all the rage back then. It was about 9 months ago I spotted someone wearing one and couldn’t believe they still existed. In the months since there’s been more and more people wearing them. They can be found online at Amazon.com, or clothing stores like Tilly’s and Urban Outfitters. My personal take on them, I don’t love them, but I could live with them being back for a bit.

#2 Yin Yangs- The Yin Yang symbol is an ancient symbol in Chinese philosophy and medicine, and has been around for ages. But it was a pretty popular item to wear in the 90’s in the form of jewelry, and on t-shirts. Recently I’ve seen the symbol popping up here and there, mostly in the form of necklaces and earrings. I don’t mind the Yin Yang symbol, but I personally think it’s best worn in smaller statements like jewelry, rather than items like t-shirts and bags. Less is more for this one!

#3 Bowler Hats – I personally LOVE them! I know, they’re not for everyone. I think they look cute with certain clothing styles, and I love that they’re popping up here and there in fashion. Back in the 90’s they were pretty much made all in black, today you can find them in several colors. The one pictured above is from Abercrombie and Fitch.

#4 Birkenstocks – Ok, this one is my thumbs down. I personally didn’t love them in the 90’s, and I still don’t love them today. Especially when people wear them with socks! But hey, those who can own it, can probably pull them off. They certainly are comfy, so they have that going for them.

What do you think?! Have you rocked any of these items lately? How are you wearing them? Share with on Instagram by using the hashtag #MTSfashionflashback. Maybe you can change my mind about the Tattoo Chokers and Birkenstocks! Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to check back every day here, and on Instagram @mdernteenstyle for more features on fashion!

SO Not Over It! | Eye on Fashion | Modern Teen Style

I have a confession to make:

I actually like the new overall trend.

*GASP*

I know, I know, you think I’m crazy; and I totally used to think everyone else who likes them was crazy, too! But they’re growing on me. And I can’t deny that some of the newer, more fitted styles, are actually kind of cute. Let me prove it to you…

overall1

I will be the first to admit that I absolutely CRINGED when I heard that overalls were making a come back. Overalls used to be baggy and kind of sloppy looking and originally were associated with farmers and people working outside. Don’t get me wrong, country chic is super cute, but I’m guessing you didn’t plan on channeling your inner farmer when you got dressed this morning. In comparison, today’s new overall styles are the complete opposite! They come in great colors and are designed to be more fitted through the leg and hip – giving you a gorgeous silhouette in an otherwise comfy cozy outfit! Plus, if you learn to dress them up a bit and accessorize them correctly, you can have one super stylish casual look in no time!

overall2

Just LOOK at all of the styling options you can rock! Rolled pant leg, ankle boots, gladiator sandals, shorts, wide legged, ripped jeans, tank top, short sleeves, long sleevves – YOU NAME IT! If you find the right pair to fit your gorgeous self and personality then your style possibilities are ENDLESS! Dress them up with a pair of stilettos or dress them down with a pair of kicks. Go boho with a hat and flowy top underneath or go city smart in a tank and ankle booties.

Whatever your style, whatever your fashion goals I think everyone should be like me and take just a tiny second look at the latest overall styles. It’s a trend that is clearly making a serious comeback!

Eye on Fashion | The Romper

Hooray! The sun is finally out and it feels like summer. If you haven’t already, let’s switch those closets over and get those shorts and sundresses out! And while you’re at it, you might want to add one of the seasons hottest fashion trends to your wardrobe: the romper! What’s easier than putting on one piece of clothing and having on an entire outfit? No thinking about what to match with what. With a romper, you’re one and done! Here are a few romper ideas to get you started dressing for those easy, breezy summer days ahead!

The floral romper combines easy dress with gorgeous flora prints! Pick your favorite pattern, add some fun sandals and you’re out the door! These can be worn casual or dressy depending on how you accessorize. Buying info here.

If florals aren’t your jam, try a solid color or geometric pattern. Add some color to these muted tones with chunky necklaces and bangles. I love the draped olive green one – it would look amazing with gold sandals and hoops! Buying info here.

I’ve been using rompers in my model photo shoots this past month and they are adorable! All rompers from my favorite local boutique – Blush Maryland!
