Eye on Fashion: Military Jackets

One of the hottest trends this season that I personally love is the military jacket! Feminine and fitted or boyish and boxy, there’s one for whatever look you’re after!

Charlotte Russe, Buckle, Hollister, ModCloth, and Wet Seal all have some particularly gorgeous designs! Whether you dress it up or dress it down, this is an essential piece that you can have a ton of fun with!

One word of advice if you plan on wearing a military jacket for your photo session: make sure that the cut of the jacket is flattering and doesn’t 1) add unwanted bulk or 2) hit too low on your legs, which will make them look shorter!

Carey Anne Photography…Modern Teen Style

Good morning! This weeks post features a fabulous session from Carey Anne Photography! Here’s what she had to say about her teen session:

“Emma, Class of 2015, is an aspiring makeup artist who plans to double major in theater design and biology in college. She has dedicated unlimited hours to studying fashion on a budget and famous makeup artists. She has an uncanny ability to put together fabulous outfits from anyone’s closet.

Emma kept her look clean and classy in the beginning of her shoot with a simple blue dress paired with a belt before changing into a cream and peach dress. To finish her shoot, she loosened her hair style for an urban look with fishnet hose, shorts, top and jacket.

We decided to focus on strong, serious expressions mixed with a few whimsical poses to reflect Emma’s personality. Being in front of the camera is second nature for Emma, so she stayed relaxed and comfortable throughout our time together. I cannot wait to shoot her again for her senior year!”

Katie Hughes Photography…Modern Teen Style

Today’s featured session comes to us from Katie Hughes Photography.

Katie added, “Ali is a sophomore at Rocklin High School and has a fabulous eye for style. She is a member of the well known and recognized Rocklin High Dance Team. She is a beautiful girl with an equally beautiful personality. I took one look at her clothing choices and fell in love. Her favorite color is orange. Once she pulled out the Orange Leather Jacket, I was hooked. I knew the exact location we would head to!

Our session was rocking a sweltering 105 degree temperature and she was a rock star! There were so many great images from her session, that it was difficult to narrow them down for her gallery.

Ali is on board as a member of my Class of 2016 Senior Rep team & I couldn’t be more excited!”

My Kind of Wonderful Photography… Modern Teen Style

This weeks featured session comes to you from Heather of My Kind of Wonderful Photography!

Here is what Heather had to say about the session, “This session features my friends daughter Brittany who is a gorgeous soon to be 16 year old. Brittany has a wonderful eye for fashion so I let her style the shoot which turned out to be wonderful. I wanted this session to really reflect her and who she is at this time. She had a great time planning what to wear which left me free to worry about other details with the shoot. I have known Brittany since she was a little girl so this shoot was very close to my heart. I love being able to look at the images of her and see what a beautiful girl she is growing up to be!”

I love the concept of a 16 year old shoot – such a pivotal age for young girls and I think this was beautifully captured!

I love these bright and bold images from Katrina at VioletRay Photography. I’m a sucker for a sporty girls turned model all in one shoot and this session definitely delivered!

VioletRay Photography really brought the vision for this session to life. She describes her inspiration as, “Fun, fresh, and BOLD! The day we shot this session was Greta’s 16th birthday, and I knew that more than anything, I wanted this session to reflect the freshness of youth while still showcasing what a stunning and beautiful young lady she is. But we also wanted to show the world that lovely young ladies can have a “go get ’em Tiger!” side to them as well. Believe it or not, Greta is a rugby player for the Missoula High School girls team, The Vixens! Goes to show you that you can’t always judge a book by its cover. ;)”

Modern Teen Style…

Today’s session is from Shelli Renee Portrait Designs!

Shelli let us in to the behind the scenes of this teen session…Hannah Mosley, a Sophomore at Shafter Hi. in Shafter, CA., is a well rounded girl excelling in both academics and sports. She’s holds a 4.0 GPA in her AP honor classes and plays on three Varsity sports teams: Volleyball, Soccer and swimming. Because Hannah has always had a love for fashion, I knew it would be a fun shoot. We decided to do a outdoor country shoot using a strobe as my main light in all 4 images and the sun providing a warm rim light in two of the images. Besides photography I’m also a hair and make-up stylist. To achieve the soft natural look I wanted, I used a neutral palette for her make-up and large spiral curls for her hair. Clothing was from Forever 21!

Today’s session comes from Dawn Attebery at StudioYouPortraits

Here is what Dawn had to say about this awesome session…”We scheduled Alexa’s session in the late spring when the weather is almost always hot here in Texas. No surprises – it was incredibly hot and humid, but Alexa handled it really well. Planning the session on a weekday allowed us to avoid crowds and traffic. Alexa’s sense of style and her willingness to experiment with posing made for a really enjoyable (although sweaty)
session. Her beauty shines through every portrait, but she is also a very sweet person who is fun to be around. We had a great time! At just 16 years old when these portraits were created, Alexa will graduate in 2015. Her stunning make-up was done by Donna Cooper .”

Modern Teen Style…Country Chic

This session is from Ashley Weeks of Ashley Leah Photography!

Meet Madyson! She’s 15 years old, a cheerleader for her high school, and can’t wait to get her driver’s license. J Madyson’s session was soo much fun!! Because she’s NOT a high school senior, we chose to go with a softer makeup application, and a young, Taylor Swift-esque hairstyle. My focus for this session was mainly on her experience, and building up her self-esteem. I wanted to be sure that she was having a great time, and I wanted her to KNOW how beautiful she is, by the end of her session. I think focusing on those two key elements insured that the images we took captured who she is at this stage in her life. Madyson has an awesome sense of style for her age, and a fun and loving free spirit and I hope you can see that in her images!

Tabitha Patrick Photography…Modern Teen Style

Tabitha Patrick Photography…

This session caught my eye right away. It shows the fun side of teenagers. Complete with wardrobes, attitude and sass! We don’t get a lot of studio submissions so this one stood out!

I LOVE to photograph teenagers! Not only are they excited to be in front of the camera modeling, but teens these days (and even tweens) have quite the fashion sense and are very trendy. I wanted do this part of her shoot with a “punk/trendy” style so I added in some pops of color and fun accessories. My model here had lots of gorgeous hair so we played into it and added a funky “swag” hat to make the shoot fun and trendy. That and her gorgeous facial expressions!
