Modern Teen Style….Megan Bryant Photography

I’ve got a real soft spot for dancers. They are so graceful, elegant and athletic. If you know me you’re probably laughing right now because none of those words describe me! However, today’s featured session from Megan Bryant Photography spotlights a stunning dancer.

Megan adds, “Lindsay booked a Teen Style session with me, hoping to showcase her love of dance. We shot a few casuals, then spent time exploring downtown for various dance shots. TONS of fun!”

Inspired By Carnvial … Teen & Tween Lifestyle

Spring is here and that means FAIR SEASON! Carnivals and Rodeos are traveling around to local County Fairs, and everyone is getting nostalgic for this annual festivity. Here in the desert, our County Fair happens in April, which means it’s already pretty hot outside. Hats and sunglasses are a common fashion thread, as well as necessity, and can be seen on virtually every person wandering around the fair grounds. The rest of the fashion statements, well, they can be pretty interesting! But whether you’re choosing to dress up, or go comfortably casual, you can do them both in style!

Fair time means CARNIVAL! Which is usually the favorite place for teens and tweens to hang out with their friends. So many fun colors can be found in the carnival area, you really can’t go wrong with what you wear. But in order to enjoy the rides and games, it can be best to keep it simple and casual. Don’t worry, simple and casual can still be stylish and cute! This would be the perfect place to wear your shorts, sandals, and cute spring colored graphic t’s.

And as most of you know, gingham is huge in the fashion world this year. For some reason, gingham always seems appropriate for fair time. It just feels a little old-fashioned country! I just love this gingham sundress from modcloth, paired with an adorable floppy sunhat and wedges! It’s the perfect outfit for strolling around the fair with candy apples in hand.

Fair time is a great time to show off those “Country Roots”. I often see people who wouldn’t consider themselves to be “cowgirls”, getting in on the excitement of the rodeo by sporting cowboy boots and hats. Not only are they practical, but they can be super cute!

Carnivals, fairs, and rodeos can be an awesome backdrop for sessions! The trick is getting there during a time when the crowds aren’t so huge. You may talk to your local fair office about possibly arranging a time during the set up process, or coming a little before opening. Some places are awesome about it, and sometimes you’re left with just having to figure it out during regular hours. But non-the-less, there are so many cute possibilities for photos! If you have a fair, carnival, or rodeo themed session that you would like to have featured on the blog, please share! Email us at info@seniorsstyleguide.com with the subject “Inspired by Shoot” for a possible feature on the blog! We want to be inspired by YOU!

Eye on Fashion | Lace Shorts!

Happy Spring everyone!! I’ve got a short and sweet post this week to go along with these short and sweet, well… shorts!

The stores are full of lace shorts right now and I love them! They texture and design make them just a little “fancier” than regular shorts and there are so many options. This first group shows different colors and different lengths of solid color lace shorts and one pair of pattern shorts with lace trim. Perfect for keeping cool during the day, they can also be made wearable for evening by pairing them with a fitted blouse and heels. I’ve even seen black lace shorts paired with a matching lace top – just be careful you don’t look so matchy-matchy. You can find these styles here.

laceshortsHere is a model I shot in February wearing black lace shorts and a yellow top – love the color combo!

Not ready to wear all lace on the bottom? Why not opt for everyone’s favorite denim shorts made sweeter with a bit of lace? Top with a white t-shirt and some sandals and you’ve got the perfect outfit for a day on the boardwalk! And how cute are those overalls? They’re back, ya know… Find these denim styles here.

Modern Teen Style….Lindsay Borg Photography

Today’s featured session comes from Lindsay Borg Photography in Arizona. And wow…I love it! The colors are so much fun and immediately make me dream of spring (spring will be here someday, right??). The colors are captivating, but they don’t hold a candle to those eyes! I love how her eyes pull you right into the image and are so incredibly vibrant and sweet.

Inspired By Music …Teen & Tween Lifestyle

For this edition of “Inspired By Music”, I’ve chosen the super fabulous Meghan Trainor. It seems you can’t turn on the radio or walk into a store without hearing one of her songs playing away. The doo-wop influenced beats of Meghan’s songs have nearly everyone bobbing their heads or swaying their hips in time. And the clever hooks get stuck in your head so easily, you can find yourself whispering “All about that base, bout that base” as you go about your daily routine.
Who ever thought such melodies of the 50’s and 60’s would make such a successful comeback in today’s generation of music?!

Meghan’s music isn’t the only fun and quirky thing about her style. Her sense of fashion is a sort of whimsical vintage that is mixed with just the right amount of pop culture couture. Her perfectly paired pastels are almost always present in her outfits and costumes both on-stage and in her music videos, and they have quickly become her signature style.

Although her style has only just a touch of vintage and Rockabilly influence, her distinct “oldies” sound always gets me day dreaming of classic convertible cars, pettiskirts, and coca cola in a bottle. Mix that with Meghan’s signature pastel palette and and you get this crazy fun whimsical-vintage photo shoot that was perfect for a rep session!

Don’t you just love how music inspires art and creativity?! The bloggers of Modern Teen Style, as well as myself, want to see your sessions that have been inspired by music, movies, books, or art! Email us at info@seniorsstyleguide.com with the subject “Inspired by Shoot” for a possible feature on the blog! Help us inspire others to be creative!

Modern Teen Style….E Cubed Photography

The light…oh, the light! These images from Erin at E Cubed Photography are stunning. Emma is such an effortless beauty and Erin has created such natural images.

Erin describes this session, “This session was for Miss Emma. She was turning 15 and chose to have a photo session as part of her gift from her parents. She told me that she was excited to go shopping for her outfits and chose bits and pieces from many different places so she had an eclectic feel.

Being that we are in a small rural town we often have to use the same location over and over again for shoots. However this was not the case with Emma. We were allowed to use the private property of a very nice person who gave us free reign over where we can shoot. There were beautiful large grass areas, palm trees, a pool, exotic birds, and stair cases galore. Did I mention it was overlooking a river into Mexico? Yes, we were incredibly lucky to have such a place at our disposal. We tried really hard to keep her poses appropriate for the location and her age. Being that she was very shy, I wanted to be able to have her quiet yet playful personality show through without asking her to be uncomfortable and awkward. She was a trooper. The goal was to keep things natural. In the end her images had this beautiful stillness and peace about them that make me feel like she was represented truthfully. Too be that beautiful yet so humble at the age of 15 is a very rare attribute.”

Eye on Fashion | 3 Ways to Style a Pixie Cut

Long hair is gorgeous- there is no question about it; but there is something bold, confident, and fierce about a girl with a pixie cut that you just can’t get with a long hair style. JLaw has one, Emma Watson is glowing with hers, Ginnifer Goodwin from Once Upon a Time is rocking one, and do you even realize how long Halle Berry has been stunning in a pixie cut? For forever!

If you have a pixie cut already (trend setter!) or are considering one for the Spring, here are some awesome ways to add spice to this great look just by adding some simple accessories!

1.Consider playing with headbands. Adding a headband to a pixie cut makes an already super cute style that much cuter! If it’s a ribbon headband/headwrap it will really soften the look of the pixie cut for an ultra-feminine look.

2. Bandanas! These will take your fierce look up a notch into 1950s territory. Who doesn’t want to channel a little 1950s glam rock every now and then?

3. Decorative hair pins will not only look cute but they can help with fly away pieces as your hair grows. Consider looking for pins that have your favorite animal, flower, or that say something about your personality. Soccer ball hair pins anyone?

Whether you add an accessory or rock it out in a faux-hawk, be proud that you are walking on the trendy side of hair styles with your pixie cut! You’re in good celebrity company, that’s for sure!

In love and fashion,
Sarah

Teen and Tween Lifestyle … Boho Style

For the past few years boho style has been making a big appearance in the fashion world. Thanks to popular clothing stores like Free People and ThreadScence, this gypsy inspired style remains a favorite and is still going strong. Items like silk and chiffon kimonos, fur or fringed jackets and vests, peasant style tops, open-backed skater style dresses of velvet and rayon, and tribal printed lounge pants, can be found in both of these online stores. Some of the more inexpensive and teen/tween focused shops like Forever 21 have caught on and keep a well-stocked selection of boho style clothing pieces and accessories on their racks.

It’s no wonder this style is still such a favorite. Many of the items are comfy while still being considered “stylish”. Who wouldn’t want to wear pajama pants lounge pants all day long? Or comfy, flowy, rayon and chiffon night gowns dresses? Sounds dreamy to me!

Boho style also features lots of great textures. From (faux) fur and leather fringe, to soft, billowy chiffon, the mixing of textures is interesting and pleasing to the eye.

There’s almost no such thing as over-accessorizing this look. Layering rings, bracelets, cuffs, and necklaces just adds to the “gypsy” effect of this look. Put on a cute headband or hat and your set! Or, it’s also a great excuse to wear that just out of bed, wavy hair or messy braid, and barely there makeup. It might sound easy, but many go through lots of trouble to get this effortless look. It’s pretty much an art to pull off this look, without it looking like you just didn’t try! But once you get the hang of how to layer the pieces and how to achieve that perfectly styled “messy” hair, you just might find yourself wanting to wear more of this look!

Here are some boho styles that inspired a recent model shoot for my rep program. These girls were so excited to bring in all their favorite boho items so that we could mix and match for the right looks. It was a super fun shoot, and the girls all really loved wearing the style!

Do you have any boho or gypsy styled shoots you’d like to share with us? If so, email them to info@seniorsstyleguide.com with “boho themed session” in the subject line. We can’t wait to see your take on this awesome style!

Get your green on! St. Patrick’s Day Fashion

Hey, everyone! March is in full swing and next week brings one of my favorite days of the year, St. Patrick’s Day! Some of us, like me, love green all year long. While others wear it just once a year to show their love for the Irish holiday. If  you fall into the latter category and are struggling with what to wear next Tuesday, never fear. This fashion blogger has got you covered. From accessories and shoes, to shamrocks and fancy frocks, you’re sure to be feeling fab in green.

Let’s just get the shamrocks out of the way, shall we?  If you’re not inclined to wear green from head-to-toe, why not accessorize with a shamrock or two? It’s the easiest and most obvious way to show your St. Patrick’s Day spirit and you can get them on just about anything.  And if you buy one or two shamrock items that you love, you can always put them away for a year and bring them back out for the big day! (Personally, I love myself a Shamrock Shake from McD’s but I digress..) Want to pick-up one of the accessories below? Click here!

shamrock

If St. Patrick’s Day has turned into a date night as well, green is an absolutely dazzling color for a dress. And with so many shades – from emerald to kelly – there is one that’s sure to go perfectly with your skin tone. I personally love the green maxi-dress in the middle – so pretty! And if you opt for a green dress, I’ve got some accessories to show you next. But be careful, don’t go overboard or you’ll be looking like a leprechaun! Dresses can be found here.greendress

It was no accident that when I searched for green accessories, so many were from Kate Spade! She just loves green because it’s fresh and preppy as evidenced by the iPhone case and business card holder below. A necklace or bracelet in green is a subtle but sure way to support the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. And green is a great accent color for white, navy and even yellow! Fun green accessory info is here!

Now, if green really isn’t your thing and shamrocks are just too cliche, why not look to your footwear!  You can even get some of your favorite brands like TOMS, Hunter and Doc Martin in shades of green! Try on one of these fun pairs of green shoes and they just might be having you dance an Irish jig! You can find shopping information here.

I hope whatever you wear on St. Patrick’s Day and wherever you go, that you have fun and stay safe! And just so you know what I look like and that I love green, here is a selfie of me in my favorite green poncho!

Erin go bragh!
