Modern Teen Style | Carrie Eigbrett Photography

Today’s featured session is from Carrie Eigbrett of Carrie Eigbrett Phtoography

I love to see a well put together session  with a dancer!  Excellent work Carrie!

Here is what Carrie had to say about the session:

Here in Western NY we tend to have some crazy winters with a lot of snow. One thing I have always wanted to capture was the beauty of that snow with the grace of a dancer. But this particular day it was about 20-25 degrees and freezing! Liberty didn’t mind one bit. She was excited to be able to showcase her costumes, her techniques and do it all in the snow. It was a fun session filled with laughter. Thankfully we had a vehicle nearby with heated seats to get warmed up in between spots in town.

The gear used:

Canon 6D

Canon 85mm-one of my favorite lenses!

The inspiration behind the session:

The back drop of the winter season combined with the beauty and grace of Liberty’s talent in dancing.

Modern Teen Style | Stacy Jay Photography

Today’s featured session is from Stacy Shadix of Stacy Jay Photography!

I was drawn to this session by the fun urban edgy vibe!  I loved it!

Here is what Stacy had to say about the session:

“This session was something I had been really wanting to do for a long time. I was looking for a model with an edgy/rocker style to take downtown and just go all out. Caroline was the perfect match! What is even better is she could also pull off a brunette Marilyn Monroe! We started out at the capital and moved on to the nearby streets. We even adventured a little to the roof of a parking garage and visited the river walk. It was supposed to rain all day, but it stopped and the sun came out just for Caroline… It was a match made in heaven!”

The gear used:

Canon 5D Mark III
Canon 50 mm

The inspiration behind the session:

I have been looking for the perfect model for a long time who resonated with the edgy/rocker style because it was a style I had not captured. I actually was talking to a friend about how I was looking for a few models and she was pointed me toward Caroline. When I saw Caroline I knew she was the girl I wanted. We met up and talked and she pretty much had everything we needed in her closet which was a huge plus!

Hair and Makeup:

Caroline did her own makeup. Score for a gorgeous and talented model!

Modern Teen Style | Christy Schmid Photography

Today’s featured session is from Christy Schmid Photography!

I saw this on our Facebook page and knew I had to feature it simply because it was fun and beautiful snow play!  I loved seeing this.

Here is what Christy had to say about the session:

“This was mini shoot for Janae, who turned sweet 16! We still had some snow on the ground, so we did some fun snow pics on a golf course. It was about 15 degrees when we did this shoot, so we were outside for only about 20 minutes.”

The gear used:

I shoot with the Canon 5d mark iii and the canon 85mm 1.2 lens, which is on my camera 90% of the time.

What inspired this session?

The snow was my inspiration, so I had Janae bring some colorful coats and scarves, and we just had fun!

Hair and Makeup:

Janae wears very little makeup, so we kept it very natural with a lip color and mascara. Janae has perfect skin to go along with the best smile, so natural was great for her!

Modern Teen Style | Carissa Davis

Today’s featured session is from Carissa Davis!

This session is graceful and elegant I could not help but feature it.  Carissa captured this ballerina in perfect form.

Here is what Carissa had to say about this session:

“Ballerinas just leave me in awe. The way they can manipulate their bodies so gracefully and effortlessly. And if all that wasn’t hard enough, they do it on their toes…. in pointe shoes! Have you ever seen pointe shoes in person?! So when Brooke approached me about wanting to do her session around dance, I knew I wanted to capture the elegance of a dancers body. I didn’t want the background to take away from the shape and movement of the poses. I wanted it to be simple but timeless. I chose an old parking lot that let’s in an OH SO PERFECT light. The walls create a gorgeous but simple background that allows your eyes to move across the subject instead of being distracted by the background. It created enough even surface and space to allow her to dance freely and stretch in seemingly impossible ways.”

The gear used:

Canon Mark iii

Canon 135mm

Canon 85mm

What inspired this session?

Brooke is one of my Teen Reps on my 2017 Dream Team and will soon be a Senior Rep for my 2018 Dream Team! Her life revolves around dance, so it was a no brainer that she wanted to include that on her one-on-one session! Which was a dream come true for me- because let’s be real…. WHO DOESN’T want to photograph a gorgeous blond hair, blue eyed ballerina ?!

Makeup:
Kandace Burns Beauty

Modern Teen Style | Marika H Photography

Today’s featured session comes from Marika H Photography!

The scenery and the subjects caught my eye.  And lets be honest that sunflower field just pops and gets your attention!

Here is what Marika had to say about the session:

“This session was photographed in rural Russia. I took my kids on a trip to visit their grandparents and I brought my Nikon D810 with a 70-200mm lens – heavy load. My boys do not like to be photographed so I had to find someone who does. I asked a friend, who happened to be a teacher in the local high school, if she knew someone. She connected me with these beautiful girls 14 and 15 year old. I knew I wanted to photograph the local scenery, so we went into my friend’s backyard that had apple and pear trees with ripe fruit falling to the ground (pretty common scene in Southern Russia’s backyards). As we drove down the street there was a beautiful view of the rolling hills, so we pulled over the side of the road for a few shots, and then went looking for a sunflower field. All of them were already mowed down. After about 30 minutes of driving and almost giving up on our search we finally came across one. The sun was almost completely down but we were lucky to get a few shots in!”

The gear used:

Nikon D810

70-200mm 2.8f lens

Reflector

What inspired this session?

I wanted to show the area where I grew up at. When I just met my husband many years ago and told him that there is fruit growing around as you walk down the street and you can pick it, he would ask “did you grow up in Heaven?” After he visited he knew what I meant.

Modern Teen Style | Linda Gorshein Photography

Todays featured session comes from Linda Gorshein Photography!

I saw this session on Facebook and immediately knew Modern Teen Style had to feature it.  Take a look, I promise it will inspire you!

Here is what Linda had to say about the session:

“Macy, a sophomore in high school here in Orlando, is an accomplished dancer with many dreams and aspirations! She’d like to be a Brandy Melville model and to one day dance on stage with a famous singer! Macy wanted a hipster, vintage look for her session, so we chose this killer urban location!”

The gear used:

Nikon D810
Nikon 85mm 1.4
Sigma 50mm 1.4

What inspired this session?

Macy’s love for modeling and dancing!

Hair and Makeup:

Kelly Ann Gleason

Modern Teen Style | Holly Omlor

Today’s featured session is from Holly Omlor!

To say the styling stopped me dead in my tracks would be an understatement.  This is a very well thought out session with every detail in place.  I am sure you all will love this feature.

Here is what Holly had to say about this session:
“We traveled back in time for a few hours to the 1920’s. The golden age of lavish and luxury, sparkles, vintage cars and flappers. I borrowed an amazing vintage car and headed to downtown at sunset to shoot in front of the Toledo Club. The facade is beautiful and grand, from the late 1800’s. I channeled some Great Gatsby with the mood and style. I just love the light and the colors and Emma loved fitting into her vintage role.”

The gear used:

Nikon D800 with my 24-70 Nikor Lens for wide shot. Had to create some Bokeh with my 70-200 though. Two OCF’s from Flashpoint with soft boxes.

What inspired this session?

I just shoot what I love and what speaks to me. I had been wanting to do something like this for a long time. The class and the glamour was so striking.

Hair and Makeup:

Emma Omlor
Emily Avaritt

Chelsea Taylor

Chelsea has been turning heads this year and I have really enjoyed seeing her work come through my feed.  Go stalk her.  There is a fresh take on this market through her lens.  She is one to watch and I am so excited to see what 2018 holds for her!

I really felt the need to add a “Lifetime” status option again.  This is picked by me and this year there is one photographer who will be inducted into this category.   Honestly, I could induct many more but I am limiting it to 1.   This photographer is doing amazing work in this market and continually lifts it up and educates and has provided valuable resources for our Modern Teen Style readers.  Additionally, her work with models in this age group is inspiring.  She has been a cover feature for both Senior Style Guide and Modern Teen Style and a PUSH Speaker and Leading Legends Judge for the HOT 100!  Like I said she has really been there to help and I feel her work needs to be recognized in this industry.   And like with Chelsea, I can’t wait to see what 2018 will hold for her!

Congratulations Nicole Cook!

And a BIG Congratulations to all the winners.  I know it is hard to put yourself out there but that is part of growing in this industry, looking at our work differently and just doing it!  Seriously, the images submitted were incredible  and everyone should be proud.  I want to see EVERYONE who submitted featured in Modern Teen Style.  I was blown away and left wondering where have you all been????  So drop what you are doing and submit those sessions that you entered.  I want to feature them.

Modern Teen Style | Chelsea Taylor Photography

Today’s featured session is from Chelsea Taylor Photography!

I love love love this youthful session!  It is perfect!

Here is what Chelsea had to say about this session:

This is an urban/athletic inspired shoot that I have been wanting to do for some time! I had a vision of dutch braids, Adidas Allstars and a sassy teen to wear them. When Alexis answered my model call, I knew she was perfect for the shoot! We started at the local High School stadium and ended at an amazing outdoor racquetball court- it was the perfect mix of high school spirit and athletic editorial vibes!!

The gear used:

Canon 6D, Sigma 85mm Art lens & a large oval reflector.

What inspired this session?

It started with a shirt! I found the “Bulldogs do it Better” tee at Forever21 and everything snowballed from there. Our local high school mascot is a bulldog and their colors are purple and gold so the shirt could not have been more perfect! Luckily Alexis is an Adidas collector so she completed the rest of our wardrobe from her own closet.

Hair and Makeup:

Makeup: Carly Chapman
Hair: Katie Brooks
