Modern Teen Style…Christy Schmid Photography

You’re in for a real treat today! Check out this adorable group of teens by Christy Schmid Photography.

The reason for this group sessions was a special occasion. Christy says, “This session was for my middle daughter’s 13th birthday. We met up for a mini photoshoot, shopping at the mall and a sleepover…all the things teenage girls love to do!

The weather and season I guess inspired my session. I knew there were no leaves or green grass so the girls wore colorful outfits that popped against the tall yellow grass and bare trees.”

Modern Teen Style…Bailey5 Photography

Today’s featured session is brought to us by the talented Leslie at Bailey5 Photography in Douglasville, GA. Kennedi has a killer style and Leslie did a beautiful job of highlighting that.

Leslie added, “Kennedi is a 2016 senior and this was her Sweet 16 shoot. Her mom had contacted me several months before about a themed shoot. Kennedi is very outgoing and she keeps her fashion choices casual and comfortable. So she wanted to turn it up a notch with this session. She was going for a rocker/bad girl look and I would say she absolutely nailed it. Not to mention it was an incredibly cold January day in Atlanta and she was a real trooper. We had an amazing time and I can’t wait to do her senior portraits.”

Modern Teen Style…Terina Matthews Photography

Today’s featured session comes from Terina Matthews Photography of Murrieta, CA. This session is absolutely adorable! I love the sun kissed light, the beautiful colors and the sweet model.

Terina describes this session best. Here’s what she had to say:

“Danielle “Gibby” Gibson is a sweet, fun loving, athletic, beautiful young woman. I have done her and her sisters school pictures over the past 6 years. Because she was graduating from the 8th grade, her mom wanted to make it a little more special this time. Not only was she going into the 9th grade, but she had already secured spots on the Varsity Girls Softball team and on the JV Girls Volleyball team. And do not let the sports girl outward appearance fool you. She is definitely all girl! Just check out the pink nail polish! Danielle, has so much energy and just loves to have fun with family and friends. I wanted to show off her personality with the session and just told her to be herself! I didn’t want it to be too similar to a senior session, that will come soon enough, but I did want to focus on who she was at this time in her life.”

Ali Ann Photography… Modern Teen Style

Happy St. Patricks day! Today we are showcasing Ali Ann Photography of Lexington, KY. Here is what she had to say about the session, “Miss Lexi was surprised by her parents with a Sweet 16 photo shoot with me. She had no idea what she was doing for her birthday. She found out when her mom brought her to the salon for hair and makeup and I was there. Her mom, Allison and I met for a consultation months before to plan out her shoot.”

Here’s what Ali had to say about her business, “I launched Ali Ann Photography in January 2011 in Lexington, KY specializing in fashion & teen portraiture photography. I have a professional background in modeling & a Bachelors Degree in Photography from the University of Kentucky. I want my clients to feel like a celebrity, so each session they receive hair and makeup and given a custom fashion inspired personal experience. I find ways to bring out  their true personality in the photographs I capture.”

Beautiful session, love this! See more of Ali’s work on Facebook or her website!

Modern Teen Style…Jill Levenhagen

Take a look at these beautiful, gritty images from Jill Levenhagen. I love the contrast in these images. The post processing is so perfect for the session itself and the locations are killer!

Jill describes the session as, “These images were photographed in two locations in my rural hometown. One was an old church and the other was an old school cafeteria.

I bought this prom dress at Goodwill for $20 and knew it would be perfect for my teen model Madison.

I really am drawn to photographing beauty in an urban or deteriorating setting and she likes it too. Not sure why, but it inspires me and I love the result!”

Modern Teen Style…Heather Evans Photography

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Today I’m so happy to feature this cute session from Heather Evans Photography in Tyler, Texas.

I’ll let Heather describe the session as the model holds a special place in her heart: “This session was done over the holidays while my niece, Carla, was in town from Washington State. I was so excited to finally be able to do a session with her. She is super comfortable in front of the camera and of course gorgeous! Her eyes are beautiful and just pop.

Since I only get to see Carla a couple times a year, it was must that we get in a session before she left. The fact that I had the new 135mm lens was just the icing on the cake. I had a new location I wanted to try out and this was the perfect opportunity.”

I love the first session with a new lens! I think it automatically forces me outside my comfort zone and pushes me to try new things. What’s your favorite portrait lens for teen session?

Be sure to check out more of Heather’s work on her website and Facebook page. Thanks for stopping by!

Eye on Fashion: Festival Flair

Festival season is coming up and I don’t know about you, but it takes me forever to decide what to wear!

Luckily, it’s pretty much a free-for-all at festivals, so you can wear whatever you want and you’ll fit right in. A few of my favorite looks are shorts with a loose, floral tank or a light dress with boots for the girls, and skinnies or crops with a fun tank for the guys!

SXSW? Coachella? Ultra? Voodoo? Sasquatch!? Bonnaroo? Lollapalooza? Which ones are on your festival schedule for this year?!?

Lori Michelle Photography… Modern Teen Style

Happy Monday! Today we are showcasing Lori Michelle Photography. Here is what she had to say about the session, “Sierra is a total Glam girl, she wanted bold makeup and lips! She is also relaxed and easy going though, so with her session we tried to balance her love to be bold with her easy going personality. With her outfits we went more casual so we could do the bold makeup to get her that glam she wanted while still keeping it relaxed. We shot these at the beautiful Reed College which provided a stunning backdrop with all the fall colors.”

Modern Teen Style…Photography by Caron

Today’s session features beautiful golden light and an awesome summer feel. This is just the kind of session I love to see in the middle of this long winter. A big thank you to Caron at Photography by Caron in Michigan for submitting this gorgeous session!

Caron and her make up artist worked together to create this wonderful concept. Here’s what Caron had to say about the session:

“Beauty meets glam, meets hippy- This session was about taking a traditionally beautiful girl and presenting her in a whole new way.

I work with my make up artist, Jill, on coming up with concepts and ideas. We text, pin & ig non-stop about what we want to create. We both really try to push ourselves on every shoot- to learn and grow every single time. The goal is to create something beautiful in a way we haven’t before. Sometimes its a new location, vintage clothing, or pieces that I have made. Jill likes to use unpredictable color pallets, with perfectly un-perfect polished looking hair.”

Eye on Fashion: Totally Tribal

I love all of the tribal prints that I’m seeing. They’re everywhere – Hollister, Buckle, American Eagle, Delia’s, Nordstrom, and pretty much anywhere you love to shop!

Everyone can rock tribal, but there are two super important things to remember:

  1. Don’t overdo it! As with any busy print or pattern, always balance it out with solid colors.
  2.

  3. Don’t put the print on any body part that you wish got less attention. For example, if you have wide hips or a large bum and you wish they were smaller, wear solid color bottoms with a tribal top. If you want to minimize your chest, you’d wear a solid color top with your tribal bottoms. People’s eyes will go to the print… and the body part it covers.
  4.

Have fun creating your tribal look for this spring!
