Eye on Fashion | The White Shirt

So… I don’t normally wear white, but I bought an off-white top a few weeks ago and I’m totally obsessed with it. So as fate would have it, as I was browsing around on E!Online, I saw an article about how stars are wearing white shirts – well, white shirts with a twist. They’re classic, crisp, and always in-style. Here are three styles you can wear day or night and look fabulous like Gigi Hadid, Jessica Alba and Shay Mitchell.

Find your style and rock that white shirt!

The Oversized Shirt

What’s better than a long, white shirt over jeans or leggings? Or in Shay Mitchell’s case, tucked into black pants. Here, the oversize isn’t so much about length, but sleeves and shoulders. Either way, it’s a winner. Buying information here.

The Asymmetrical Shirt

Maybe it’s a high-low look or a unexpected angle in the shirt, either way the asymmetrical shirt will keep people guessing. But what will be readily apparent is how fashionable you are, just like Jessica Alba above. Get yours here.

The Cut Out

Cut outs at the neck or on the shoulder give the white shirt a sexy, updated look. And who doesn’t want to look like Gigi Hadid??

Valentine’s Fashion 2016

With Valentine’s less than two weeks away, we are starting to dream up some fun outfit ideas for the day. We’ve incorporated some of the current fashion trends into these “Love Inspired” Valentine’s Day outfits, to help you drum up your own outfit inspiration, to get you celebrating in style!

First, since we’re still enjoying the comeback of the shift dress, we’ve paired a simple red shift with navy leggings, red skimmer flats, and an adorable navy and red printed heart scarf. It’s a great look for those who want to stay comfy while looking chic and celebratory.

Be Mine

Next we have a black pleated skater style skirt paired with an adorable white button up blouse with black hearts, and black combat style ankle booties. This ensemble looks great finished off with a black floppy hat and statement tote bag. Swap out the booties for a pair of black heels for a dressier look!

Dark Heart

For a more fun, flirty, dressed-down look, we’ve put together this crazy cute pairing of boyfriend jeans, and “Love” baseball tee. This outfit would look super cute with red converse shoes, but then we saw these amazing Valentine’s limited edition Dr Martins (also making a comeback in fashion) and HAD to pair them up with this outfit instead! A couple fun accessories like a tied up heart-printed headband completes this look adorably.

I Heart You

For our last V-day inspired outfit we went with a beautiful A-line style navy dress printed in multi-colored graphic hearts. Graphic prints and designs are particularly popular right now, and this one is just adorable. The gorgeous Alexander McQueen navy boots pair up perfectly for this look, but a pair of navy heels, or even ballet flats would do nicely as well. All the little mint accessories pop nicely against the navy for just the right balance of color.

Blue Valentine

And there you have it! We hope these inspire YOU to find something sweet and fashionable to wear on Valentine’s Day 2016! Share with us your V-day inspired outfits on instagram @mdernteen #vdayfashion, and enjoy your day with the one(s) you love!

Modern Teen Style | Devon J Imagery

Today’s featured session comes from Devon Jones of Devon J Imagery!

To say I am totally in love with this is an understatement!  The whole session will be featured in our February Issue but here is a teaser.

Here is what Devon had to say about the session…

This morning, it was raining. I got up before everyone else, and I drank my coffee and read my Kindle. I looked out after a few chapters, and I saw the biggest, fattest, most gorgeous snow ever!! In north Texas, we don’t get much snow, and especially not much PRETTY snow!! I immediately thought to myself, “I HAVE TO SHOOT IN THIS!” I called my go to girl Addison, and all but begged her to come model for me! We only spent about 10 minutes outside, but it was the most beautiful 10 minutes I’ve spent outside with my camera in a while.

Be Inspired by….| Cierra Ramirez | Eye on Fashion

Houston born actress Cierra Ramirez is definite style inspiration. Known for her role on ABC Family’s The Foster’s, Cierra’s personal style is all about leading lines and textured frocks. If you’re looking for a style icon that isn’t afraid to mix things up in her wardrobe – then Cierra is the girl for you!

cierra

Cierra is a fashion icon for all girls who like to take a look and make it their own. Ruffles, platform shoes, fuzzy vests, you name it! Cierra isn’t afraid to add a funky layer or piece of jewelry to an already amazing outfit just to give it that Cierra flare – and you shouldn’t be afraid to either!

cierra2

Channel your inner Cierra the next time you get dressed and once you’re ready to go – consider adding that little “something” that really puts the spin on your look. Maybe it’s a sparkly purple headband or an amazing faux fur backpack, or even some killer leopard print sandals – whatever it is make sure it speaks to YOU and who YOU are. Don’t be afraid to stand out. As classic style icon and fashion maven CoCo Chanel said: “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.”

Winter Capes and Wraps

Today we are going to talk about wraps and capes. What they are, how to wear them, and why we love them! As in-house fashionistas, we’re always looking for great ways to mix up our winter wardrobes and still keep them practical and warm. The other day, I (Rey) got tired of wearing my same old black winter jacket, so I found a gorgeous wool wrap and swapped it out for the day. Not only did it keep me warm, and was easy to wear, but I got tons of compliments throughout the day! If you’re unsure about making the switch, read on and find out how and why you should give it a try!

wraps

Wraps are similar to shawls and stoles in that they are usually one piece of fabric with no holes for neck or arms. They are made to drape about the shoulders and wrap around the body, sort of like wearing a mini blanket. They often come in knits, wool, flannel, and fleece, which will help to keep you nice and warm.

How to wear them– If you’re able to score a solid color like black or tan,  you can wear them over anything! But you can also wear them as your main fashion piece, rather than an accessory, and pick a cute print to wear with with jeans, a solid color coordinating top, and some cute winter boots.

Capes

Capes are a little more like jackets in that they often come with holes for arms and neck, and sometimes even have hoods. They are loose fitting and flared on the bottom. They can be more comfortable than jackets and have a sleek, clean lined look that feels high fashion. Though they have been around for hundreds of years, they always manage for feel ultra modern. They too are usually made from wool and flannel, and other heavier materials.

How to wear them– Capes look especially great with short dresses, and tunics with leggings and boots. You can wear them buttoned up, or even open for a layered effect.

Why we love them– They are just so comfy and ultra fashionable! It’s not often you can combine “sleek and modern” with “cozy and comfy”. They look high end and lavish, and can take a boring winter outfit to the next level!

Eye on Fashion | Winterize Your Skin

I don’t know about where you live, but where I am in Maryland, it’s so cold. I mean, hurts your face kind of cold. And we are preparing for Snowmageedan II this weekend. So, when thinking about what to write about this week, I couldn’t get the idea of being cold out of my head. I could have written about bathing suit styles for this summer (yes, suits are already out in the store) but I’m too cold. And my hands are dry. In fact, all my skin is dry from the heat being on and the wind outside. And let’s face it (see what I did there?) there’s nothing less fashionable than rough, dry skin. Here are 5 tips for keeping your skin its best during theses cold winter months.

Stay warm!
Megan

Hydrate!

It’s always a good idea to drink plenty of water and the winter is no exception.  Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and looking it’s best. Keep a glass by your bed or take one on the go with these adorable bottles. You can find buying information here.

Switch-Up Your Skin Care

Even though your skin may be naturally oily, be careful of putting too much added stress on it in the winter by using products that contain alcohol and other drying ingredients. You can still use non-greasy products by looking for facial moisturizers that are “oil free.” But maybe go easy on the toner as it can dry out your skin. And sunscreen is always a great idea, even in winter. The sun reflecting on snow can be harsh on your skin! Buy your products here.

Don’t Neglect your Hands and Feet!

I don’t know about you but my hands are so dry in the winter. I feel like I’m constantly putting lotion on…all day! And my feet are dry and cracked. So be sure to get some think, moisturizing cream and lather it all over! Put it on your feet at night and cover with socks and your feet will be super soft in the morning! Buying info here.

Add a Humidifier

There’s an easy way to get moisture back into the air in your house – get a humidifier! Heat can dry everything out and add the cold, windy air and you’ve got double trouble. Humidifiers are relatively inexpensive and sometimes, they are even cute! Find them here.

2016 Hair Color Trend “Colour Melting”

One of the biggest trends in hair over the past few years has been the Ombre’. For the few of you that might now know what the ombre’ is, it’s basically a graduation of color from roots to ends, that gets either lighter, or in some cases darker, as it graduates down the length of the hair. Ombre’s can also be applied with less of a gradient and more of a noticeable line between colors.

ombre'

It seems for 2016, hair stylists are kicking it up a notch with something they’re calling “Colour Melting”. Colour Melting is like an ombre’ but with a natural feel. Instead of graduated lines on the whole head of  hair, it’s almost as if there is no end or beginning to where the color starts. It’s a natural, sunkissed look and it’s absolutely beautiful!

colour melting

Working with the hair’s natural parts, the chemical color is applied using three different color tones to give a fading effect. So each individual strand will be graduated in three colors, starting with the first color, then second color, then the lightest color, then second color again, and back to the first color. This way no definitive lines show in the hair, and it looks completely natural and beautiful! Since this is a newer technique, and it’s process can be quite lengthy and tedious, you will want to find a hair stylist that has great experience in foiling hair. And be prepared to pay a couple hundred dollars at minimum to get it done! But don’t worry, it usually fades perfectly without leaving any notice of color treatment (depending on the colors you choose) so it’s not something you would have to fix or cover up immediately after a month or two!

Have any of you tried it yet? What did you think? Share some images with us on Instagram @mdernteen so we can see! Thanks for popping in today to see us, and be sure to check back everyday on Facebook and Instagram for more teen style and photography inspiration!

Here is what Melissa had to say about this session…

This was a fun loving session of my 15 year old niece. She wanted to show off her nerdy musical side at her mom’s alma mater. She brought along her new guitar that she just got for her birthday. She is very inspired by Taylor Swift and wanted her session to be like Taylor in her younger years. I love the fact that she is a very humble and sweet loving girl that always tells my 10 year old son that it is better to be in the nerd herd instead of the popular group. She loves animals and was so excited to see deer during her session. I have photographed her for several years now and cannot believe how much she is grown up in the last year since starting high school. She plans on going to college here at Berry College.

The inspiration behind the session…

The sister in law graduated from Berry College in Rome, GA and asked me to photograph my 15 year niece at her alma mater. Danielle loves Taylor Swift and wanted to have her session done with her new guitar. Danielle has been told by many people that she favors Taylor from when she was younger and wanted to have that vibe with her session.

Spring Shoe Preview | Eye On Fashion

You heard it here FIRST:
One of the biggest and hottest styles of the upcoming Spring season in the shoe department is going to be the wood sandal!

Get ready to continue to channel that inner 70s style from the Winter trends and carry it into the Spring because the hottest shoe on the market is going to be a wooden heel or platform sandal. And now, you can be ahead of the trend and ready to hit the school hallways as I show you not only the different stylish options but how to pair them with your Spring wardrobe!Untitled-3

The great thing about this style is that it offers such a versatile look. You can pair them with your best sundress and cardi or even your favorite pair of jeans and a tank!
Untitled-4

One thing to note about the wood sandal, however, is that, if made from real wood they will be heavier than you might be used to for a shoe. I suggest grabbing one pair before you go out and buy the entire lot so that you give yourself a chance to get used to the weight on your feet and ankles after a day of wearing them in school. You may find that the wood sandal isn’t your go-to daily wear shoe but is rather better fit for a Saturday lunch with friends or Sunday morning church. Don’t shy away from this style but definitely give yourself time to ease into it!

What do you think? Do you LOVE it?! Let us know in the comments below what you think of the upcoming trend!

Inspired by Emma Watson

Today’s “inspired by” post features the lovely Emma Watson. We adored her as the fuzzy headed, super intelligent, young Hermoine Granger from Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, and we were crazy excited to see her character transform into a demur beauty in a lavender formal dress in The Goblet of Fire. We loved that it showed us girls can be beautiful, fashionable, AND smart, and brave. It seems these qualities aren’t just those of the characters Emma plays on screen, but also a huge part of who she is in real life.

Since Harry Potter, she has attended Brown University, ranked #15 on the Forbes list of the top earning young superstars, and has starred in over ten more movie and theatrical productions. Emma has also made her mark in the fashion world. Her style is always artistically elegant, while playing with both classic and modern looks. She is breathtaking on the red carpet, and stylish in her everyday looks. At only fifteen years old, she appeared on the cover of Teen Vogue, making her the youngest person ever to do so.

Emma loves fashion and has been quoted as saying “I love fashion, I think it’s so important, because it’s how you show yourself to the world”. She also believes that it should be fun and a resemblance of the individual wearing it. Rather than seeking out the most current fashion trends, she isn’t afraid to make her own looks from both old and new fashion pieces. She enjoys wearing what makes her comfortable and what she feels beautiful in. “Don’t feel stupid if you don’t like what everyone else pretends to love” she has been quoted as saying in regards to her fashion choices. And that is great advice to anyone making fashion choices for upcoming photoshoots. You definitely want to wear what what YOU feel beautiful and comfortable in, because that emotion comes through in the camera!
