The Forgotten Accessory | Eye on Fashion

Wait until you read this one – you’re about to break out your jewelry box and dig through it 😉

Today’s Eye on Fashion post is taking a look back at an often forgotten accessory: earrings!
earrings

WHAT?!

I know, I know – you have earrings, you like earrings, you usually buy a pair or two every season, etc. But when was the last time you really took some time to truly consider your earrings when choosing an outfit?  Sunglasses, necklaces, bracelets and rings are front runners in the accessory department since they are always out and about under the spotlight. Earrings, on the other hand, can easily be forgotten under hats or hairstyles – but trust me when I say they are a force to be reckoned with.

Earrings come in COUNTLESS forms: short, long, statement, classic, mid length, round, square, tassel, teardrop, and on and on and on. And they can MAKE OR BREAK an outfit. Glitzy tassel earrings have no business with jeans and a sweatshirt while diamond studs may be the perfect addition to a sweater to take it up a notch. And an extra long feather earring in one ear and short black stud in the other can make people turn heads. There are even entire stores dedicated to the accessory line (Charming Charlies, Claire’s, etc.)! Don’t discount these little beauties when you get dressed.

So why not consider earrings FIRST the next time you get dressed? Go on, take the jewelry box out, dig through your old pairs, and dust some of them off. I bet you have forgotten just how many great gems you have stashed away and instead you tend to fall back on your standard classic pair day to day. But today? Go crazy! Let your ears do the talking for your look and give a little sparkle to your earlobes. I’d be willing to bet you feel like a new YOU with a new (or haven’t been worn in a while) pair of earrings!

Already we have highlighted sweet Peach Echo, the crazy popular duo Rose Quartz & Serenity, and dreamy Limpet Shell. So far we are really loving all of this year’s color choices in fashion!

You’re sure to make a statement when wearing this awesome color in any fashion. Here’s some of the ways we’ve paired it up to give you some fashion inspiration!

First we HAD to play with Dolce & Gabbana’s super sweet Lemon printed fashion pieces. They scream spring and there are so many fun accessories in this print, you can mix and match to your hearts content! What a fun way to wear “Buttercup”!

Dolce Lemon

Next we have this super cute crepe style dress in Buttercup. We’ve made it playful and young by pairing it with a white bowler hat, some funky yellow glasses, knee high socks, and an adorable pair of Buttercup Dr Martins!

Why the Shape of Your Face Matters | Eye on Fashion | Modern Teen Style

The Spring sunshine has arrived! The warmth on your face, the bright rays in your eyes, the sweet warm breezes? SPRING IS HERE!!
And with that comes the cutest accessory around: sunglasses!

But how do you choose the perfect shades for your face? You choose based on your face shape, that’s how!
In today’s Eye on Fashion post I’m going to show you which styles of sunglasses to gravitate towards for your face shape in order to find the perfect set of shades!

Did you know that faces have a particular shape? It’s true! Most faces fall into one of four shape categories: Oval. Square. Round. and Heart!
faceshapes

Knowing which face shape you have is key to picking out the perfect sunglasses. To figure out YOUR face shape follow these easy steps:

  1. Stand in front of a mirror and pull your hair clean back from your face – making sure all the stray hairs are out of the way.

2. Paying close attention to your jawline and the hair line around your forehead, use a mirror safe crayon or marker to trace the shape of your face on to your mirror. Then voila! (be sure to clean off the mirror before you get in trouble, though!)

Now that you have which shape category your face falls into, you can head to the store with these suggestions in mind:

Round or Heart Shape – Aim for square, cat eye, retro square, or sporty types of sunglasses!

Oval Shape – Aim for square, aviator, or over sized styles of sunglasses!
sunglasses2

Square Shape – Aim for round, shield, or aviator styles of sunglasses!

Still not convinced that the shape of your face affects which glasses look like stunner shades on you? Give it a shot! Take this blog with you to the store and give it a go – I bet you’ll find it’s a lot easier to pick out sunglasses after you test it out 😉

Pantone’s Limpet Shell

As we go through this year’s Pantone picks for spring colors in fashion, we new we wanted to save Limpet Shell for our Easter style inspiration. It’s just the perfect color for Easter, falling somewhere in-between aqua and mint, and going perfectly with white, cream, pink, or even bold black and white for a quirkier option.

So we put together some Easter outfit ideas that can be worn to Sunday brunch, or to church, or whatever your traditional Easter Sunday ritual might be. If you don’t celebrate, no worries, these are still fun outfits for spring anyhow!

First we have a more traditional Easter outfit with this lovely lace skirt in Limpet Shell, paired with a white cardigan, cute accessories, and adorable scalloped flats. It’s classic and simple, yet elegant.

Limpet Shell 1

Second, we have something a little more flirty and fun with this super cute floral skirt in Limpet Shell with pink blossoms. We’ve paired it with a simple pink crop top, and matching slip on Gucci sandals. Some cute sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat make it perfect for an outside Sunday picnic.

Limpet Shell 2

For our third outfit, we have a Limpet Shell tunic style midi dress with matching wedge heels. We’ve paired it with cute straw accessories like this sun hat from Bergdorf Goodman and tote bag found at Target. This look is perfect for Sunday brunch!

Limpet Shell 3

For this look, we wanted to create something quirky and fun. So we’ve paired together an organza midi skirt in Limpet Shell, with a black and white polka dot cardigan. The black ballet flats, and wide brimmed hat complete the look, but not without that awesome Betsy Johnson polka dot bow satchel style purse!

Limpet Shell 4

Last, we have something a little more on the business chic side, for those of you who like to dress up for Easter without being in a dress or skirt. We’ve paired a lovely Limpet Shell blouse with some sleek DKNY flared Palazzo pants, and added some simple accessories like earrings, a watch, and a Vince Camuto hand bag.

Limpet Shell 5

And there you have it! Your 2016 Easter Inspiration using Pantone’s “Limpet Shell”. We hope you like our picks, and hope it inspires you to create the perfect look for Easter this year. Happy Easter to you all!

Flower Power | Spring Floral Fashions | Eye on Fashion

As far as I’m concerned, March is here next week and that means Spring is here, too! I’m ignoring those 40 degree temperatures and taking a note from Blake Lively who was recently seen in head-to-toe floral patterns in NYC – it’s flower season, baby!

Floral patterns and embellishments will always be a staple of Spring, so if it’s not your thing just skip back a couple of blogs to Rey’s posts about the Pantone color palettes and focus on your color scheme rather than your print game.  But if it IS your thing then you have hit the jackpot because today’s post is nothing but florals!

florals1

No matter what you do or where you go, flowers are the firs true sign of Spring and warmer days ahead. From the moment you see the little flowers buds poking up out of the ground it’s like a universal sign to grab your shades and shorts and open those windows – am I right?

If you don’t own a lot of floral patterns in your Spring wardrobe ease into it with a gorgeous skirt or blouse. One or two floral pieces can really help break up an otherwise boring jeans and t-shirt style.

If you’re feeling especially daring or are already comfortable in our flower prints – opt to bring some floral style to your shoes!
florals2

A floral heel or tennis shoe is the ultimate statement for your feet – it says that you are confident in your style and smart enough not to ignore the fact that your look matters all the way down to the details (including your feet!).

The beautiful thing about prints and embellishments is that they can act as the WOW factor to your look – allowing you to downplay other parts of your outfit.
Flroals 3

Whether you’re a seasoned flower girl or easing into this Spring staple, there is a floral print out there for everyone! Grab one new piece or a whole new wardrobe, but don’t shy away from this  gorgeous style – it’s here to stay!

Eye on Fashion | Taylor Swift Grammy Style

There was so much black and white on the Grammy Red Carpet Monday that it was so nice to see Taylor Swift’s red and fuchsia color blocking Atelier Versace two-piece dress. I love seeing colors together that you don’t usually see; it’s daring, bold and bright. The colors also serve to remind us that Taylor is young and energetic. The crop top and bare midriff paired with the maxi skirt are sexy yet classy.  Here are three outfits to help you get T-Swizzle’s fierce look!

Have fun!

Pantone’s Rose Quartz & Serenity

Serenity & Rose Quartz

Pantone’s spring 2016 color palette has got fashion industry hearts all a flutter right now. Last week we introduced this spring’s color ensemble with one of our favorites “Peach Echo” (Read all about it here), and this week, we’re going to show you two more colors that have the fashion world giddy with excitement. The two most talked about colors on the new spring palette are “Rose Quartz” and “Serenity”. Rose Quartz is a romantic soft pink, much alike the natural rose quartz stone itself. And Serenity is an almost powdered grey-blue that just so happens to compliment Rose Quartz beautifully. So you can imagine that from everyday fashion to high fashion, and from home decor to wedding decor, we are seeing this new hot color combo everywhere we search “Pantone Spring 2016”.

You can wear these colors individually, as they will stand on their own. We just love how they look in comfy casual wear. Like these A-line faux leather skirts and over-sized comfy sweater combo. Pair them with some fun flats or ankle booties for equally cute looks.

Rose quartz and serenity 3

Rose Quartz and Serenity also look great in this dressier business chic look. How fantastic are those Giambattista Valli high-rise floral trousers in Serenity? And the Rose Quartz sheer neck-tie blouse is SO lovely!

Rose Quartz & Serenity 2

Going back to that “romantic” feel of pairing these two dreamy colors together, we have two gorgeous lace dresses, perfect for going out or even Easter (which will be here before we know it)! Those flowered heels in Rose Quartz, and caged heels in Serenity complete this romantic look perfectly too!

Rose Quartz & Serenity 4

Have you purchased anything in Rose Quartz or Serenity yet? If so, we want to see! Tag us on instagram @mdernteen with the hashtag #pantonespring16 so we can see! And be sure to check back next week for another Pantone color feature, and everyday for more awesome style inspiration!

Pantone Spring 2016 Color Trends – Peach Echo

We all know how fast the seasons change, and with the prediction of good old “Punxsutawney Phil” the iconic ground hog weather seer, we are headed for spring in no time! So it’s time to talk about 2016 Spring Fashion Color Trends! Pantone’s list of colors for this years spring colors is a mix of bright and cheery, with colors like “Buttercup”, “Peach Echo”, “Snorkel Blue”, “Green Flash”, and “Fiesta”, but also brings in soft and dreamy colors such as “Rose Quartz”, Serenity”, “Limpet Shell”, “Lilac Grey”, and “Iced Coffee”. From the looks of it, it’s going to be a great summer for fashion!

2016springcolortrends Today we are highlighting one of our favorites “Peach Echo”, as we dream of spring and start planning our spring wardrobes for all those upcoming warm weather photoshoots! Peach Echo is a little punchier than your usual soft peach you find in fashion. It’s a bit more playful, but can be toned down with cream for a classic play on “peaches and cream”. We love this Tropical floral print dress that gets us ready for the sun, paired with embellished flip flops, peach sunglasses, and a cream sunhat.

Peach Sun

If you’re feeling bold, you can go all peach with something like this adorable yet sophisticated a-line cupcake dress. You can even get a head start on your spring fashion and pair it with a duster and ankle booties and wear it now while it’s still a little cooler outside! The cute bowling style purse ties it all in for the perfect look.
Peach and Tan

For something a little more flirty and fun, we love this floral sundress paired with boots and a cowboy hat. Nothing says spring like flowers, and peach florals are sure to rule the scene this spring!
